"Access to good, fresh, nutritious food is every child’s human right. It’s easy to agree with this, but the reality is an astounding 41 million children under the age of five are overweight or obese, while another 159 million kids are too short for their age. None of these children are growing healthily. Jamie is calling on us all to join a global Food Revolution in order to provoke debate and inspire real, meaningful, positive change in the way our children access, consume and understand food." |
"Let’s Move! is a comprehensive initiative, launched by the First Lady, dedicated to solving the problem of obesity within a generation, so that children born today will grow up healthier and able to pursue their dreams. Combining comprehensive strategies with common sense, Let’s Move! is about putting children on the path to a healthy future during their earliest months and years; giving parents helpful information and fostering environments that support healthy choices; providing healthier foods in our schools; ensuring that every family has access to healthy, affordable food; and, helping children become more physically active." |
"In Africa, 23 million children go to school hungry. This severely affects their ability to concentrate in class, in turn affecting their school performance. Many children take to the streets and beg for food in the morning, instead of going to school to learn. In Kenya, where the Food for Education programme operates, 26% of children are stunted due to chronic undernutrition and 40% suffer from malnutrition. In a country where 46% of the population lives in poverty and 43% of the population are aged 15 years and under, many children are born into and grow up in poverty."
